How to dress to impress

Four Ways To Look Your Best

When it comes to perceptions, all of us claim that we don’t care about what others think. Unfortunately, despite our protestations, this is pure fallacy. In actual fact, we all give a great deal of weight to the thoughts of others and this is one of the main reasons why we try to dress to impress.
Of course, there are times when we let this slip a little and embrace casual clothing, choosing to prioritise comfort over aesthetic appeal. On these occasions we may not care quite as much about what others think, but we still won’t appreciate any negative comments!
In order to avoid such hurtful remarks, there are a number of things which we can do. Looking your best is all about matching your clothes to your figure – and here are five ways to do just that:

1. Know Your Shape
The first thing you need to do is determine what type of body shape you have. There are numerous guides that will provide information on how you work this out and it is important that you consider this carefully. Once you have ascertained what category you fall into, you should look at clothing ranges which target specific groups – such as Elomi, who design lingerie for those with a fuller figure.

2. Know Your Colours
The next thing you need to consider are colour combinations. These are often the source of badly put together outfits and those who are not aware of which colours work well together will often struggle to find their perfect ensemble.
If you are unsure then speak to shop assistants or look for guides online. Once you have got a few tips you can then begin to browse your local shops and will soon develop your own eye for colour.

3. Know Your Patterns
Similar to knowing your colours, it is important that you remember a few basic rules about patterns. A current trend sees these mixed and matched in strange combinations, but this can be a dangerous path for those lacking style confidence.
To play it safe, wear patterned clothing with plain fabrics – perhaps introducing the pattern through a bag or accessory. If daring to clash your prints then try and keep a common theme or colour.

4. Know Your Exposure
Lastly, make sure you remember the principle rule of fashion: never show too much skin! How much of your body you decide to expose to the public is down to you, but most people follow the rule that if you are wearing a short dress then your neckline should be higher and more conservative.
